Caudalie Moisturizing Mattifying Fluid

Like most women, I enjoy wearing makeup. However, this past year has consisted of return after return or dissatisfaction with products. At first, I used drugstore brand foundations, until I became tired of never being unable to match my skin color!!! Most foundations (especially drugstore brands) cater to women who have pink undertones in their skin. I’m a Chicana (Mexican-American) and many of us Brown people, as well as the majority of Asians, have yellow/olive undertones in our skin. Because very few foundation lines cater to yellow/olive undertone skinned women, I basically have limited options when it comes to choosing foundations. And as if that weren’t enough, I have extremely oily skin, which further limits my options when trying to shop for foundation.

I was using Make Up For Ever HD liquid foundation ($42) because they have such an extensive amount of color selections. This foundation was about 90% of a match, but wouldn’t last long on my skin even with primer and powder on top! My face would get extremely shiny about an hour and a half later. The only foundation that has EVER matched my skin 100% is the NARS Sheer Glow foundation ($42) in Stromboli (Medium 3) . The only problem is my face looked like a disco ball about 30 minutes later!!!! Soooo shiny and about an hour later, basically melted off n faded in some regions. It was just not flattering at all!! Thinking back, I’m so embarrassed about it, lol, and can’t even believe I wore it until finishing the bottle…lol. But hey, that’s $42 that I was not gonna let go to waste!! (Starving college student over here!!) I am not kidding when I say that I have been going to Sephora, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, and Macy’s at least once to twice a week every week for the past year!!!! I have gone through everything and these were the only foundations that matched my skin and gave me the coverage I needed at the time (now, occasional, hormonal acne, although it was so bad at one point :/ and not to mention a horrible skin allergy at the same time.) I was determined to find something that would work for me. I even switched skin care, application technique, etc. I tried many mattifying moisturizers, primers, and foundations that did NOTHING. The only foundation that did not slide off my face is the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation ($35), which by the way, has very prominent pink undertones in their formulas. (Sorry for this long intro, but I thought it necessary to express my experience with other products, although this does not even begin to scratch the surface of everything I’ve tried.)

So, about a month ago, my friend and I were at Sephora (again) and we got samples of everything we could find that claimed to be mattifying and foundations claiming to be long wear (My friend has a shiny T-zone, not as bad as mine). The Sales Assistants gave us samples of many products, but a Sephora representative (not sure exactly what her position was) told my friend and I about new Caudalie products. I just nodded and couldn’t help but think, “Okay, more scientific mumbo jumbo claiming to perform miracles”. When I told her about my extremely shiny skin, she gave me a sample of the Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Mattifying fluid.

I was skeptical but took my sample anyway and thanked her. I didn’t pay much attention to this tube until about a week or two later. I took a risk and used this for the first time when doing my makeup for a party. To my surprise, my face stayed sooooo matte it was seriously like a dream!! I just couldn’t believe it!! I kept looking at my face in the mirror every time I went to the bathroom, lol. It was just that unbelievable. Thinking it could’ve been a fluke, I used it again during the day with the exact same other products. It was hot, humid, and I was sweating, but still, my face remained matte. I can’t even explain what I felt because I swear it seemed like I would never find anything that would work. I’m sure the foundation I paired it with also had something to do with it, since on its own, the foundation does a good job of not sliding off my face (Smashbox Studio Skin 15 hr Wear- $42). Because of this, I tried the Caudalie MFF with a sample of NARS foundation that I had. The NARS foundation usually melts off about an hour later, but with the Caudalie MMF under this, it lasted about 6 hours before my skin developed a bit of a shine. And it wasn’t exactly a shine, it was more like a bit of a glow. Nothing else I’ve ever tried has helped the NARS stay on that long. Although I am no longer using the NARS foundation, I have to say I was very impressed. I’m almost done with my sample 😥 (which was actually a generous amount and you don’t need to use very much.) However, I liked this product soooo much that I am going sometime this week to purchase the full size :). I seriously can’t live without it now, especially during summer! The full size Caudalie MFF is 1.3 oz for $38. It’s a bit pricy, but I don’t even care because it actually does what it says and I would much rather pay that than have to worry about looking ridiculous, as I don’t have time to be blotting, looking in the mirror, or reapplying powder. If you have oily skin or even just a shiny t-zone and nothing else works, try it out!!! Go get a sample from your local Sephora, the sales assistants are very helpful! 🙂
